Frame (What is this?)
Frames are the main component of a bicycle, it's the skeleton of the bike on which wheels and other components are fitted. Our frames our made out of steel. If you're curious about the causes and effect of different material (e.g. carbon, aluminum, steel) in bicycle frames there is a great tutorial here.
Want more colors? No problem, we can paint your frame in most colors on this chart. Just let us know which color you want in the 'further customization' box at the bottom of the order form.
(product info)
We use IRO Mark V frames. We stock frame in sizes of 50cm, 53cm, 56cm, 59cm, and 62cm which fit well for people who are 5' 4" to 6' 7". We will be in touch to size you shortly after you make your order.
Rims (What is this?)
Rims are the outside part of the bicycle wheel that tires attach to. We only stock one type of rim, the Velocity Deep V's. They are very popular for city riding on account of of their durability and available colors.
Mission Bicycles come standard with Velocity Deep V rims which are strong, light, and full of color.
(product info)
We use 32 hole Velocity Deep V Rims. The deep section on these rims creates strength, aerodynamics and durability. They are used for training, racing, commuting, touring, and in the velodrome. Check out Velocity's website for more information.
Tires
The base CST tires are fine for general riding conditions. Upgrading the Vittoria Rubinos will give you better traction and are much less likely to get a puncture flat.

Vittoria Rubinos have Nylon 60 TPI casings, Kevlar® Endura 3D Compound, with high duration and exciting road-behaviour, PRB puncture protection, updated tread pattern, with Dot C.O.M. Vector Design, and a grommet rigid bead (4 wires), for an easier fitting. Check out Vitorria's website for more information.

Spokes and Nipples (What is this?)
Spokes are like the bones of your wheel, they attach your hub to your rim and need to be strong without adding too much weight to your entire bicycle. Of course, black spokes cost a little more, but they do look amazing. Also an upgrade from "DT Champions" to "DT Competitions" help you loose 35 grams of weight per wheel. So effectively take 2.5 ounces of dead weight off your bike.

Bottom Bracket (What is this?)
The bottom bracket is the set of bearing that your crank relies on to let you spin as fast as you can. We only use the best shimano bottom brackets, but if you want to take off some weight and spin a little faster the Stronglight JP400 won't disappoint you.
Crankset (What is this?)
The Crank is the two arms that connect to the bottom bracket. These are what your pedals attach to and also what your front chain ring attaches to as well. The "Thomson" also has an adjustable tilt feature for full control of your body position.
Chain (What is this?)
KMC is our favorite company for chains, and we have several options, but that's why you want a Mission Bicycle right?
(product info)
These are great style additions to your bicycle. Smooth and strong in a ton of colors.
(product info)
A nice upgrade to everyone who rides regularly in wet weather. These "Rustbuster Chains" are "rust proof". Anyone who has seen an old Schwinn from 1975 has seen rusted chain that is now an artifact. If they would have had these chains back then, we'd all be riding Schwinns..... probably not, but you get the point.
(product info)
These "KMC Gold Chains" are awesome. Smooth as silk and a lot lighter than normal chains. Chains are notoriously heavy, but this little gem really performs.... and it's gold.
Gear Configuration
By default, your Mission Bicycle only comes with a front brake and fixed gear. If you upgrade to Freewheel + Fixed Gear, you'll get a front brake and both gear combinations. If you want to change this setup, fill out the "Further Customization" box on the order confirmation page and we'll hook it up.
(product info)
All Mission Bicycles come set up for fixed gear riding. This means that when your bike is moving, the pedals are turning. (i.e. no coasting) If you have any questions about this you can check out our FAQ page.
(product info)
A freewheel will let your bicycle coast. Most people who ride these style of bikes have their bicycles set up as fixed, so we will add the freewheel IN ADDITION to having a fixed gear. If you choose this option your bike will be able to coast and ride fixed at the flip of a wheel.
